Service Procedure
1. Remove power steering drivebelt shield.2. Loosen power steering/air conditioning drivebelt tensioner bolt, pivot bolt and lock bolt.
3. Remove power steering/air conditioning drivebelt.
4. Loosen water pump pulley retaining bolts. Do not remove bolts at this time.
5. Raise and support vehicle.
6. Loosen alternator pivot bolt.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Loosen alternator tensioner bolt and lock bolt, then remove alternator drivebelt.
9. Remove water pump pulley retaining bolts, then pulley.
10. Raise vehicle.
11. Remove right front tire.
12. Remove right fender splash shield.
13. Lower vehicle.
14. Using crankshaft damper bolt, rotate engine in clockwise direction to Top Dead Center. Align "I" and "E" marks on camshaft sprockets. Refer to Figure 7.
15. Install camshaft holding tool (T92C-6256-AH), between camshaft sprockets. See Figure 7.
16. Raise vehicle.
17. Remove crankshaft damper retaining bolt.
18. Using puller T81P-78103-A and slide hammer T50T-100-A, remove crankshaft damper.
19. Remove lower timing belt cover. See Figure 8.
20. Lower vehicle.
21. Remove timing belt tensioner spring as follows:
^ Using ratchet and 6 mm alien head socket, rotate tensioner clockwise to release tension on spring.
^ While tension on spring is released, remove tensioner spring from dowl. See Figure 9.
^ Remove tensioner retaining bolt, then remove tensioner from engine.
22. Install timing belt tensioner as follows:
^ With spring attached to tensioner, install timing belt tensioner. Do not final tighten bolt at this time.
^ Rotate tensioner clockwise, then install spring on dowl.
^ Tighten tensioner retaining bolt to 38-51 Nm (28-37 lb-ft).
23. Remove camshaft holding tool.
24. Raise vehicle.
25. Install lower timing belt cover. Tighten retaining bolts to 8-10 Nm (71-89 lb-in).
26. Install crankshaft damper as follows:
^ Install crankshaft damper. Tighten retaining bolt hand-tight. at this time.
^ Install crankshaft holding tool (T92C-6316-AH) onto crankshaft. See Figure 10.
^ Final tighten crankshaft damper retaining bolt to 157-166 Nm (116-122 lb-ft).
^ Remove crankshaft holding tool.
27. Rotate crankshaft clockwise two (2) turns, and align timing marks.Make sure all marks are still correctly aligned.
28. Install right fender splash shield. Tighten retaining screws to 8-10 Nm (71-89 lb-in).
29. Install right front tire. Tighten lug nuts to 88-118 Nm (65-87 lb-ft).
30. Lower vehicle.
31. Install upper timing belt cover. Tighten retaining bolts to 8-10 Nm (71-89 lb-in).
NOTE:
Make sure the "F" mark is pointing away from the engine. Install water pump pulley. Do not final tighten retaining bolts at this time.
32. Install water pump pulley. Do not final tighten retaining bolts at this time.
33. Install alternator drivebelt as follows:
^ Install drivebelt.
^ Using tensioner bolt, adjust drivebelt to 50-68 Kilograms (110-150 Pounds) tension.
^ Tighten lock bolt to 19-25 Nm (14-18 lb-ft).
^ Raise vehicle.
^ Tighten pivot bolt to 38-51 Nm (28-38 lb-ft).
34. Lower vehicle.
35. Tighten water pump pulley bolts to 8-10 Nm (71-89 lb-in).
36. Install power steering/air conditioning drivebelt as follows:
^ Install drivebelt.
^ Using tensioner bolt, adjust drivebelt to 50-68 Kilograms (110-150 Pounds) tension.
^ Tighten lock bolt to 32-46 Nm (24-34 lb-ft).
^ Tighten pivot bolt to 44-60 Nm (32-44 lb-ft).
37. Install power steering drivebelt shield. Tighten retaining bolts to 7-9 Nm (62-80 lb-in).
38. Clean valve cover and cylinder head of all old silicone sealant.
39. Apply silicone sealant to cylinder head in shaded areas shown in Figure 11.
40. Install new valve cover gasket.
41. Install valve cover. Tighten retaining bolts in two (2) steps, in sequence shown in Figure 12 to 7-10 Nm (62-88 lb-in).
42. Position power steering hose on valve cover, then install retaining bolts to both routing brackets. Tighten retaining bolts to 8-10 Nm (71-89 lb-in).
43. Attach power steering pressure switch wiring harness to power steering hose.
44. Connect power steering pressure switch electrical connector.
45. Install engine oil dipstick.
46. Connect and install PCV hose and valve.
47. Connect ignition wires to spark plugs.
48. Connect battery negative cable, then remove memory saver.
49. Check operation of engine.
