ENGINE - 2.0L - OIL PUMP - REVISED OIL PUMP
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

FORD:
1997 PROBE

ISSUE

Some 1997 Probe vehicles were built with an oil pump containing offset dowel pins in order to properly align the oil pump to the engine block.

ACTION

When servicing an oil pump on one of the subject vehicles, a new Oil Pump Service Kit must be used. Refer to the following text for the build dates and engine numbers to determine if a vehicle requires special modifications. Refer to the Instruction Sheet, included with the kit, for installation procedure.

Affected vehicle engine number range is as shown.

All vehicles with 2.0L engines built between 9/5/96 and 12/9/96 with an engine number of FS-200304 through FS-209265.





Before proceeding, verify that the engine number is within the affected range. The engine number can be found on the left front side of the engine block. Refer to Figure 1.

If the engine number is within the affected range, install the oil pump as supplied, no modifications are required. If the engine number is out of the affected range, refer to the Instruction Sheet in the kit for installation procedure.

CAUTION
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE MAY RESULT IN SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE.
