Oil Pump: Description and Operation

The oil pump is bolted to the front of the cylinder. blocks and is crankshaft driven. A full-flow oil filter is mounted to the cylinder block. Under normal operating conditions, all of the engine oil will pass through the oil filter. If this oil filter becomes clogged or blocked, the oil will be routed through a bypass valve, directly to the engine.
