Ring to Groove Clearance

Use a new piston ring and measure the piston ring-to-groove clearance around the entire circumference of the piston.

The standard clearance for the top piston ring is 0.035-0.065 mm (0.0014-0.0026 inch).

The standard clearance for the second piston ring is 0.030-0.065 mm (0.0012-0.0026 inch).

If the piston rings exceed 0.085 mm (0.0033 inch), replace the piston.
