Draining and Filling

1. With the engine off and sufficiently cool, remove the radiator cap, open the radiator draincock and allow the coolant to drain. A 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) inner diameter hose should be attached to the radiator draincock to direct the coolant into a suitable container.
2. Close the radiator draincock, and hand tighten.
3. Check all hose clamps for proper tightness and location. Ensure that the radiator draincock is closed.
4. Place the climate control assembly in the maximum heat position.
5. Fill the radiator to the filler neck seat with a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water.

NOTE: It is important to maintain engine coolant concentration between 40 percent 24°C (-11° F) and 60 percent 52° C (-62° F) depending on climate conditions. Below 40 percent there is a loss of freeze protection. Above 60 percent the engine may overheat on a warm day. Outside this range, protection against rust and corrosion may be greatly reduced. Use Ford Premium Cooling System Fluid E2FZ-19549-AA,-B or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A or equivalent.

6. Leave the radiator cap off and run the engine until the water thermostat opens (coolant flowing through the upper radiator hose becomes hot).

WARNING: TO AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, DO NOT OPERATE THE ENGINE WITH HOOD OPEN UNTIL THE FAN BLADE HAS BEEN FIRST EXAMINED FOR POSSIBLE CRACKS AND SEPARATION.

7. Turn the engine off, then add coolant to the radiator as necessary to raise the level. Install the radiator cap.

NOTE: Coolant level cannot be accurately checked while the engine is running.

8. Add a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water to the F mark on the radiator overflow container cap.
