Parking Brake System Components (Part 2 Of 2):





1. Check the parking brake rear cable and conduit for damage and proper routing. If the parking brake rear cable and conduit is damaged, it must be replaced.
2. Operate the parking brake control and check for conditions that may cause binding, groaning, or an incomplete release of the parking brake.
3. Ensure that the parking brake components are in good condition and that all the cables and the cable housing clamps are lubricated and in good condition.
4. Check the operation of the parking brake with the vehicle on a hoist and the parking brake fully released. If there is any slack in the parking brake rear cable and conduits or if the rear brakes drag when the wheels are turned, adjust as required.
5. Check the parking brake control by pulling up on the parking brake control. The parking brake must fully set within 5 to 7 notches. If not as specified, adjust the front parking brake cable and conduit.
6. With the ignition switch in the "ON" position, verify that the brake system warning indicator in the instrument cluster illuminates when the parking brake control is pulled one notch. If the warning indicator does not illuminate, refer to the diagnostic Pinpoint Tests. Pinpoint Tests
