Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
1. Verify the customer concern by operating the audio system.2. Visually inspect the following components of the audio system:
Mechanical
- Damaged audio components
- Damaged radio speaker
- Damaged or binding antenna mast
- Damaged electric antenna assembly connections
Electrical
- Blown fuse(s):
+ 15A RADIO
+ 15A ROOM
+ 15A METER
- Broken or loose wiring
- Corroded or poor
3. Check the wiring harness for obvious signs of shorts, opens, bad connections, or damage.
4. All radio conditions can be isolated to one of five general areas:
- Antenna system
- Radio chassis
- Speaker system
- Radio noise suppression equipment
- Premium sound system
NOTE: Internal diagnostic examination of the radio chassis, radio receiver and amplifiers should be left to the authorized radio service center. However, the automotive technician should be able to analyze and isolate radio conditions to the proper area or component causing the condition.
5. If fault is not visually evident, determine the symptom and proceed to the Symptom Chart. Diagnosis by Symptom
