Fuel Injector: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Remove fuel tank filler cap and release fuel tank pressure.
3. Perform fuel pressure release procedure.
4. Remove upper intake manifold.
Fuel Injector:
5. Carefully remove connectors from fuel charging wiring to individual fuel injectors as required.
6. Remove fuel injection supply manifold.
7. Remove fuel injector retaining clips as required.
8. Grasping fuel injector body, pull up while gently rocking fuel injector from side to side.
9. Inspect fuel injector O-rings (two per fuel injector) for signs of deterioration. Replace as required.
10. Inspect fuel injector body, end cap and washer for signs of dirt and deterioration.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate O-rings with clean engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-F and install on each fuel injector.
CAUTION: Never use silicone grease. Silicone grease will clog the fuel injectors.
2. Install fuel injectors. Use a light twisting, pushing motion.
3. Reinstall fuel injector retaining clips as required.
4. Install fuel injection supply manifold.
5. Install connectors from engine control sensor extension wire to fuel injectors.
6. Install upper intake manifold. Perform Post-Service Procedures. Service and Repair
