Headlamp: Description and Operation

The headlamp system consists of:
^ Two aerodynamic headlamps with replaceable halogen bulbs.
^ Three-position headlamp switch (with integral circuit breaker).
^ Headlamp dimmer switch (part of multifunction switch).
^ Circuit wiring and circuit protection.

The headlamp switch:
^ Is provided power through Circuit 38 (BK/O).
^ Is protected by power distribution box fuse HD LPS (50 A) located in the engine compartment.
^ Is provided ground at the headlamp bulb and retainer through Circuit 57 (BK).
^ When pulled all the way out, provides power to the headlamp dimmer switch (part of the multi-function switch through Circuit 15 (R/Y).

NOTE: If the headlamp switch is left in either the PARK or HEAD position and the driver's front door is opened, the safety belt warning chime will sound.

With the headlamp dimmer switch:
^ In the LO position (middle position), power is supplied to the low-beam elements through Circuit 13 (R/BK).
^ In the HI position (forward detent), power is supplied to the high-beam elements through Circuit 12 (LG/BK) and to the high-beam indicator in the instrument cluster.
^ Momentarily pulled toward the steering wheel, the flash-to-pass switch closes and the high-beam headlamps light and will remain lit until the headlamp dimmer switch is released.
