Replacement

REMOVAL
1. If necessary, remove oil bypass filter (6714).
2. Remove oil pump and filter body to engine front cover retaining bolts and remove oil pump and filter body (6603) from engine front cover (6019).
3. Inspect O-ring for distortion and wear. Replace O-ring.
4. Lift pump gears out of pocket in oil pump and filter body.
5. Clean sealing surfaces of engine front cover and oil pump and filter body.
6. Using a straightedge and feeler gauge, measure across mounting surface of engine front cover for wear or warpage.
7. If surface is out of flat by more than 0.04 mm (0.0016 inch), replace the engine front cover.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Failure to properly coat the oil pump gears may result in failure of the pump to prime when engine is started. Do not use chassis lubricants.

1. Lightly pack gear pocket with petroleum jelly or coat all gear surfaces with Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-A.
2. Install gears in oil pump and filter body pocket. Make sure petroleum jelly fills all voids between gears and pockets.
3. Position oil pump and filter body on engine front cover and install retaining bolts.
4. Tighten four large engine front cover retaining bolts (M8) to 23-32 Nm (17-23 foot lbs.).
5. Tighten two small retaining bolts (M6) to 8-11 Nm (71-97 inch lbs.).
6. If removed, reinstall oil bypass filter.
