Removal & Installation
REMOVAL
NOTE: Disconnect the transmission oil cooler inlet and outlet lines from the radiator (8005) using Disconnect Tool T82L-9500-AH.
1. Drain engine coolant. Disconnect upper radiator hose (8260) and lower radiator hose (8286) and radiator overflow hose (8075) from the radiator.
2. Remove cooling fan motor, fan blade (8600) and fan shroud (8146) as an assembly.
3. Remove coolant recovery reservoir engines and bracket.
4. Remove radiator support upper bracket retaining bolts and remove radiator support upper brackets (8A193). Lift radiator from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. If equipped with automatic transmission, transfer the transmission oil cooler line connectors to the new radiator, using Pipe Sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M 18P7-A.
2. Position the radiator into the vehicle. Install radiator support upper bracket and secure with bolts.
3. On vehicles with automatic transmission, connect the transmission oil cooler lines.
4. Install cooling fan motor, fan blade and fan shroud as an assembly by inserting two lower legs to the radiator support (16138) with two retaining bolts. Install radiator support upper brackets with two retaining bolts. Tighten to 8.0-10.5 Nm (71-92 inch lbs.).
5. Close the radiator draincock (8115).
CAUTION: Make sure the clamps are beyond the bead and place in the center of the clamping surface of the connections. New hose clamps must be installed inside the hose alignment marks or coolant leaks and engine damage may occur.
6. Connect the upper radiator hose, lower radiator hose and radiator overflow hoses. Position the hose clamps at least 50 mm (2 inches) from-each end of hose and slide hose on the connections.
7. Tighten clamp to 2.2-3.4 Nm (20-30 inch lbs.) (when using screw-type clamps).
8. Install coolant recovery reservoir and bracket.
9. Fill the radiator with the recommended 50/50 mixture of Premium Cooling System Fluid E2FZ-19549-AA or -B, in Oregon F5FZ-19549-CC, in Canada, Motorcraft CXC-8-B recycled coolant or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A and water.
WARNING: TO AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, DO NOT OPERATE THE ENGINE WITH THE HOOD (16612) OPEN UNTIL THE FAN BLADE HAS BEEN FIRST EXAMINED FOR CRACKS AND SEPARATION.
10. Operate the engine and check for leaks at the hose connections and the transmission oil cooler lines. Check the automatic transmission, radiator and radiator coolant recovery reservoir/degas bottle fluid levels.
