Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Position manual control lever in the NEUTRAL position.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Remove nut retaining manual shift cable to transmission control lever and position aside.
5. Remove two retaining bolts.
6. Lower Transmission Range (TR) sensor and disconnect electrical harness from sensor.
7. Remove TR sensor.
INSTALLATION
1. Install TR sensor and loosely install retaining bolts.
2. Align TR sensor slots using TR Sensor Tool T93P-70010-A.
3. Tighten retaining bolts to 7-10 Nm (62-88 lb in) and remove tool.
4. Connect electrical harness to TR sensor.
5. Install manual shift cable and tighten retaining nut to 19-26 Nm (14-19 lb ft).
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Connect battery ground cable.
8. Check for proper operation with parking brake control engaged. The engine should only start in PARK or NEUTRAL.
