With Automatic Transaxle
WARNING: When servicing starter or performing any maintenance in area of starter, note heavy gauge input lead connected to starter solenoid is hot at all times.1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then isolate cable end with electrical tape, or equivalent.
2. Remove fresh air duct and air cleaner assembly.
3. Using screwdriver, or equivalent, disconnect shift cable from selector lever by prying cable from lever.
4. Squeeze lock tabs on shift cable, then remove shift cable from cable bracket.
5. Mark positions of wiring harness connectors, then disconnect engine wiring harness from following components:
a. Knock sensor.
b. Throttle position sensor.
c. Two fuel rail connectors.
d. Distributor.
e. Manual Lever Position (MLP) switch.
f. Automatic transaxle.
g. Two wire harness connectors.
6. Position engine wiring harness aside.
7. Remove two selector cable bracket mounting bolts, then bracket.
8. Remove starter motor support bracket, then disconnect starter motor electrical connectors.
9. Remove three starter motor retaining bolts, then starter motor from vehicle.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Torque starter motor retaining bolts to 24-33 ft lb.
b. Torque starter solenoid B-terminal nut to 12-16 ft lb.
c. Torque selector cable bracket mounting bolts to 5-7 ft lb.
