Removal












1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301).
2. Remove hood (16612). Refer to Body and Frame.
3. Remove engine compartment brace from front fender aprons (16055) and dash panel (01610).
4. Remove air cleaner outlet tube (9B659). Refer to Powertrain Management.
5. Drain engine cooling system.
6. Recover air conditioning system. Refer to Heating and Air Conditioning.
7. Remove radiator coolant recovery reservoir (8A080). Refer to Cooling System.
8. Remove cooling fan motor/fan blade (8600) and fan shroud (8146) assembly. Refer to Cooling System.
9. Disconnect upper radiator hose (8260) at water bypass tube. Refer to Cooling System.
10. Disconnect wiring connector from secondary air injection switching valve vacuum regulator control. Refer to Powertrain Management.
11. Disconnect secondary air injection pump outlet hose from secondary air injection switching valve. Refer to Powertrain Management.
12. Relieve fuel system pressure and disconnect fuel tubes (9291) from fuel injection supply manifold (9F792). Refer to Powertrain Management.
13. Remove 42-pin connector from retaining bracket located on RH side of dash panel.
14. Disconnect 42-pin connector and position out of the way.
15. Disconnect accelerator cable (9A758) and speed control actuator cable (9A825) from throttle body (9E926) and from accelerator cable bracket (9723). Position accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable out of the way.
16. Disconnect evaporative emission canister purge vacuum line at connector located on the RH front fender apron.
17. Disconnect chassis vacuum supply hose at connection near fuel pressure regulator (9C968).
18. Disconnect generator B+ wiring connector from power distribution box and harness (14516).
19. Disconnect 7-pin and 2-pin wiring connectors at the power distribution box and harness.
20. Remove power steering return hose (3A713) from power steering pump (3A674) and drain. Remove power steering pressure hose (3A719) from power steering pump.
21. Disconnect power steering return line hose (3A005) from power steering pump reservoir.
22. Remove reservoir retaining bolt and stud from LH ignition coil bracket. Remove power steering pump reservoir.
23. Install engine lifting eye from Rotunda Engine Lift Bracket Set 014-00340 or equivalent to the LH cylinder head (6049). Tighten retaining bolts to 40-50 Nm (30-36 ft. lbs.).
24. Raise and support vehicle.
25. Disconnect A/C compressor suction and discharge lines from A/C compressor (19703).
26. Drain engine oil.
27. Remove dual converter Y pipe (5F250).
28. Disconnect lower radiator hose (8286) at radiator (8005) and water thermostat housing and remove lower radiator hose.
29. Remove starter motor (11002).
30. Remove transmission.
31. Disconnect heater water hoses from the heater inlet and outlet tubes at rear of the RH cylinder head.
32. Install engine lifting eye from Rotunda Engine Lift Bracket Set 014-00340 or equivalent to the LH cylinder head. Tighten retaining bolts to 40-50 Nm (30-36 ft. lbs.).
33. Remove RH and LH front engine support insulator retaining nuts.
34. Lower and support vehicle.
35. Connect engine lifting spreader bar from Rotunda Engine Lift Bracket Set 014-00340 and Rotunda Heavy Duty Floor Crane 014-00071 or equivalent to engine lifting eyes on engine. Lift engine from vehicle.
36. Lower engine onto a level, stationary surface.
37. Remove clutch pressure plate (7563) and clutch disc (7550).
38. Place engine on suitable work stand.
39. Remove engine lifting equipment.
40. Remove RH and LH water jacket pipe plugs in cylinder block (6010) and drain balance of engine coolant. Reinstall pipe plugs.
