Throttle Body: Description and Operation

Throttle Body:

The throttle body assembly controls air flow to the engine through a butterfly-type valve. The throttle position is controlled by conventional cable throttle linkage. The throttle body is a single-piece aluminum die casting. It has a single bore with an air bypass channel around the throttle plate. Cold and warm engine idle air flows through the bypass channel as regulated by an Idle Air Control (IAC) valve assembly mounted directly to the throttle body.

Other features of the throttle body assembly include:
- A throttle body mounted Throttle Position (TP) sensor.
- An individual ported vacuum tap for Evaporative Emission (EVAP) control signal.
