Attachment III - Technical Information

MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR REPLACEMENT

AFFECTED VEHICLES:
1996 CROWN VICTORIA POLICE INTERCEPTOR MODEL CARS EQUIPPED WITH 4.6L SOHC ENGINES

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Disconnect Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector. Refer to Figure 1.

2. Disconnect Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.Refer to Figure 1.

3. Loosen clamp retaining MAF sensor to clean air tube. See Figure 1.

4. Unclip and remove air cleaner cover. The MAF sensor is attached to the air cleaner cover.

5. Place air cleaner cover on clean work bench.





6. Remove MAF sensor retaining screws. See Figure 2.





7. Remove seal from MAF sensor. See Figure 3.

8. Position seal on air cleaner cover.

9. Install new MAF sensor on air cleaner cover. Tighten screws to 4.7-5.0 Nm (42-44 lb/in).

10. Install air cleaner cover.

11. Tighten clamp retaining MAF sensor to clean air tube.

12. Connect IAT sensor electrical connector.

13. Connect MAF sensor electrical connector.

^ Obtain, prepare and attach the Authorized Modifications Label. Write in the modification description, your P & A Code, the change authorization and date of repair as shown below.

^ Provide California and Massachusetts owners with "Emissions Recall Proof of Corrections" Certificates.
