L: Speedometer Constantly Reads Too High Or Too Low
Pinpoint Test L - Speedometer Constantly Reads Too High Or Too LowL1 - Check Vehicle Speed Sensor Drive Gear
- Remove vehicle speed sensor from transmission and venfy that correct drive gear is installed for vehicle transmission/axle/tire combination.
Is drive gear correct?
YES GO to L2.
NO INSTALL correct gear with retaining clip. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
L2 - Check Drive Gear On Transmission Output Shaft
- Check that correct drive gear is installed on transmission output shaft.
Is drive gear correct?
YES GO to L3.
NO INSTALL correct output shaft and/or gear. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
L3 - Check Continuity
- Disconnect ballery ground cable.
- Disconnect connectors C1 and C2 at electronic instrument cluster.
- Check continuity in connector pin C1-12, circuit 679 (GY/BK) and pin C1-8, circuit 676 (PK/O)
Is continuity present?
YES GO to L4.
NO SERVICE respective circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
L4 - Check Vehicle SPEED Sensor
- Disconnect vehicle speed sensor.
- Measure resistance across vehicle speed sensor.
Is resistance between 200-300 ohms?
YES REPLACE electronic instrument cluster. AFFIX odometer sticker to door pillar. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO REPLACE vehicle speed sensor. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
