HH: Air Bag Warning Never/Always ON
Pinpoint Test HH - Air Bag Warning Never/Always OnHH1 - Check Electronic Instrument Cluster For Warnings
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Wait past prove-out time.
- Check electronic instrument cluster display to determine whether the warning is always on or never on.
Is AIR BAG warning always on?
YES GO to HH2.
NO G0 to HH4.
HH2 - Check Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor For Internal Short To Ground
NOTE: If the air bag warning indicator flashes on and off continuously it means that it is showing a diagnostic code. It does not mean that the air bag warning indicator needs to be serviced.
WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS PERFORMED AS PERSONAL INJURY MAY RESULT. TO DEPLETE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE.
- Disconnectbattery ground cable.
- Disconnect positive battery cable and wait one minute.
- Disconnect air bag diagnostic monitor.
- Reconnect positive battery cable.
- Reconnect battery ground cable.
- Check electronic instrument cluster for warning.
Is AIR BAG warning illuminated?
YES GO to HH3.
NO REPLACE air bag diagnostic monitor. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
HH3 - Check Continuity Of Circuit 608 (BK/Y)
- Turn ignition switch to OFF.
- Disconnect electronic instrument cluster.
- Check continuity in circuit 608 (BK/Y).
Is continuity present?
YES REPLACE electronic instrument cluster. AFFIX odometer sticker to door pillar. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE circuit 608 (BK/Y). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
HH4 - Check Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor For Internal Open Circuit
WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS PERFORMED AS PERSONAL INJURY MAY RESULT. TO DEPLETE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF.
- Disconnect battery ground cable. Refer to Section 14-QI
- Disconnect positive battery cable and wait one minute.
- Disconnect connector at air bag diagnostic monitor.
- Connect a jumper wire from circuit 608 (BK/Y) at harness connector to ground.
- Reconnect positive battery cable.
- Reconnect battery ground cable.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Check electronic instrument cluster for warning.
Is AIR BAG warning illuminated?
YES
NO
YES REPLACE air bag diagnostic monitor. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to HH5.
HH5 - Check Air Bag Input Circuit Continuity
- Remove jumper.
- Disconnect electronic instrument cluster.
- Check continuity in circuit 608 (BK/Y).
Is continuity present?
YES REPLACE electronic instrument cluster. AFFIX odometer sticker to door pillar. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE circuit 608 (BK/Y). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
