Pinpoint Test EE - High Beam Warning Never/Always On

EE1 - Check High Beam Indicator Operation

NOTE: Make sure the light switches are in proper positions when checking circuit operation.

- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Wait past prove-out time.
- Check electronic instrument cluster displays to determine whether the indicator is always on or never on.

Is high beam indicator always on?

YES GO to EE2.
NO GO to EE4.

EE2 - Check Electronic Instrument Cluster For Short Circuit 932 (GY/W)

- Disconnect connector C3 at electronic instrument cluster.
- Measure voltage at connector pin C3-4, circuit 932 (GY/W).

Is voltage 0v with ignition switch in RUN, headlamps on, high beams off?

YES REPLACE electronic instrument cluster. AFFIX odometer sticker to door pillar. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to EE3.

EE3 - Check For Short To B+

- Reconnect electronic instrument cluster.
- Disconnect multi-function switch.

Is high beam indicator illuminated?

YES SERVICE short to B+ in circuit 932 (GY/W). SERVICE as required. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO REPLACE multi-function switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

EE4 - Check Electronic Instrument Cluster For Open Circuit

- Turn ignition switch to OFF.
- Disconnect electronic instrument cluster.
- Connect a jumper wire from high beam input pin of electronic instrument cluster connector pin C3-4 to positive battery terminal. Supply ground to ground pin of electronic instrument cluster connector pin C3-1.

Does high beam indicator illuminate?

YES GO to EE5.
NO REPLACE electronic instrument cluster. AFFIX odometer sticker to door pillar. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

EE5 - Check Circuitry

- Reconnect electronic instrument cluster.
- Disconnect multi4u nction switch.
- Jump circuit 932 (GY/W) multi-function switch connector pin C2-5 to positive battery terminal.

Is high beam indicator illuminated?

YES GO to EE6.
NO SERVICE circuit 932 (GY/W) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

EE6 - Check Continuity

- Disconnect headlamp switch.
- Check continuity in circuit 15 (R/Y).
- Check continuity to power in circuit 38 (BK/O).

Is continuity present?

YES REPLACE headlamp switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE respective circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
