E: BLOWER MOTOR DOES NOT OPERATE
PINPOINT TEST E: BLOWER MOTOR DOES NOT OPERATEE1 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR OPERATION
- Turn ignition switch ON, Function Selector Switch to FLOOR and blower knob to HI.
- Does blower motor operate?
- Yes
Go to E2.
- No
Go to E4.
E2 CHECK BLOWER LO SPEED
- Rotate blower knob to LO.
- Does blower motor operate?
- Yes
Wiggle wires and check for intermittent operation. Service if necessary.
- No
Go to E3.
E3 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR
- Check resistor assembly for continuity of coils and thermal limiter.
- Is resistor good?
- Yes
Check Circuit 261(0/BK) from blower motor to resistor and Circuit 57 (BK) from resistor to ground. Service as necessary.
- No
Replace resistor and check blower motor operation.
E4 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Ground Circuit 261(0/BK) at the blower motor. Position Function Selector knob at FLOOR and turn key to RUN long enough to check for blower motor operation.
- Does blower motor operate?
- Yes
Check Circuit 261(0/BK) between blower and the splice to blower motor resistor for an open. Service as necessary.
- No
Go to E5.
E5 CHECK FUSE
- Check blower motor fuse.
- Is fuse good?
- Yes
Go to E6.
- No
Go to E9.
E6 CHECK FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH
- Pull Control Assembly from instrument panel enough to gain access to the electrical connectors. With Function Selector set at FLOOR and ignition switch in RUN, check battery voltage at Function Selector Switch Pin 3 Circuit 249 (DB/LG).
- Are 12 or more volts available?
- Yes
Go to E8.
- No
Go to E7.
E7 CHECK VOLTAGE SUPPLY
- With same conditions as in Step 6, check for voltage at Pin 4 of Function Selector Switch Circuit 181 (BR/O).
- Are 12 or more volts present?
- Yes
Test Function Selector Switch for continuity in all switch positions. Replace switch if not continuous in all positions.
- No
Check Circuit 181 (BR/O) between fuse panel and Control Assembly.
E8 CHECK VOLTAGE
- Reinstall the Control Assembly. With ignition switch in RUN and Function Selector set at FLOOR, check battery voltage at blower motor Circuit 249 (DB/LG).
- Are 12 or more volts present?
- Yes
Replace blower motor.
- No
Service or replace Circuit 249 (DB/LG) between Control Assembly and Blower Motor.
E9 CHECK CIRCUIT
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect blower motor connector and install a new fuse. Turn ignition switch to RUN with Function Selector set at FLOOR.
- Does fuse blow?
- Yes
Go to E10.
- No
Replace blower motor.
E10 CHECK CIRCUIT FOR SHORT
- Pull Control Assembly from instrument panel enough to gain access to the electrical connectors. Disconnect the harness connector from the Function Selector Switch. Install a new fuse and turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Does the fuse blow?
- Yes
Check Circuit 181 (BR/O) for short. Service as necessary.
- No
Check Circuit 249 (DB/LG) for short. Service as necessary.
