Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Raise and support the vehicle.
Exhaust Hanger:
2. Use a pry bar to remove the muffler inlet pipe hanger posts from the exhaust hanger insulators. Use the body hanger post as a pry point.
Catalytic Converter Inlet:
3. Remove the two three way catalytic converter inlet nuts.
4. Remove the two exhaust pipe flange hold down springs.
Catalytic Converter Outlet:
5. Remove the two three way catalytic converter outlet nuts.
Catalytic Converter:
6. Separate the three way catalytic converter from the muffler inlet pipe and remove the converter.
7. Remove and discard the exhaust converter outlet gasket between the three way catalytic converter and the muffler inlet pipe.
8. Inspect the exhaust converter inlet pipe gasket on the exhaust inlet pipe. If there is any sign of deterioration, remove and replace it.
INSTALLATION
1. Install a new exhaust converter inlet pipe gasket on the exhaust inlet pipe.
2. Install the three way catalytic converter on the exhaust inlet pipe.
3. Install a new exhaust converter outlet gasket on the three way catalytic converter.
4. Install the three way catalytic converter on the muffler inlet pipe.
5. Install the two three way catalytic converter outlet nuts. Tighten the two three way catalytic converter outlet nuts to 38-56 Nm (28-41 lb ft).
6. Install the two exhaust pipe flange hold down springs and the two three way catalytic converter inlet nuts. Tighten the two three way catalytic converter inlet nuts to 38-53 Nm (28-38 lb ft).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Start the engine and inspect for exhaust leaks.
