Mode 1 Procedure
Mode 1:
1. Ensure that there are no vacuum and/or air system intake leaks.
2. Ensure that the idle speed and timing are properly adjusted.
3. Ensure that all accessories are OFF, including A/C.
4. Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels.
5. Start the engine and bring it to normal operating temperature.
6. Let the engine idle for 2 minutes with the engine temperature above 81°C (178°F). Monitor the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Parameter Identification (PID) if necessary.
7. If an active Mode 1 PID is available, monitor the PID to verify successful Mode 1 completion. If Mode 1 cannot be completed despite accurately following the procedure, refer to Pinpoint Test QC to diagnose the cause of the Mode 1 failure. QC - OBD II Monitor Testing Not Complete (DTC P1000)
8. Turn the key OFF.
