Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.

2. Drain the cooling system below the level of the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.

3. Remove the two upper intake manifold bracket bolts and the upper intake manifold bracket.

4. Disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove the ECT sensor using a deep well socket.

6. Remove the washer from the sensor. Discard the washer.

INSTALLATION
1. Install a new washer on the sensor.
2. Install the sensor into the manifold. Tighten to 25-29 Nm (19-21 lb ft).
3. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
4. Install the upper intake manifold bracket and bracket bolts. Tighten to 19-26 Nm (14-19 lb ft).
5. Refill the cooling system and check for leaks.
6. Connect the battery ground cable.
