WARNING:
THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE. PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.

ISSUE:
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate with no driveability concern present on some vehicles. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, and/or P0110 are present. This may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration.

ACTION:
Replace the PCM with a revised PCM. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Verify the DTC It should be P0300, P0301, P0302, PO303, P0304, and/or P0110 and repair per the following Steps.

DTC: P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, OR P0304





1. Replace the PCM with the revised PCM listed in the PCM Application Chart and retest. Refer to the 1996 Aspire Service Manual, Page 03-14-5, for PCM replacement.

2. If the DTC still exists, refer to the 1996 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Service Manual, Section 6B-189, for diagnostic procedures and repair as needed.

DTC: P0110

1. Inspect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor following the procedure outlined in the PC/ED, Section 6B-16.

2. If the IAT is at fault, replace the IAT following the Service Manual, Page 03-14-6, and retest.

3. If the IAT tests good, replace the PCM with the revised PCM listed in the PCM Application Chart. Refer to the 1996 Aspire Service Manual, Page 03-14-5, for replacement procedures and retest.





Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
