Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Crankshaft Position Sensor:
The crankshaft position sensor is a single Hall-effect magnetic switch, which is activated by three vanes on the crankshaft vibration damper and pulley. The signal generated by this sensor is called CKP. The CKP signal provides base timing and RPM information to the ignition control module and the powertrain control module.
Initial engine ignition timing is set at 10 degrees +/- 2 degrees BTDC and is not adjustable.
