NOISE - RATTLE - FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT DURING STOP-AND-GO ACCELERATION - VEHICLES WITH 2.0L ENGINE AND CD4E TRANSAXLE
FORD:
1994-95 PROBE
ISSUE:
There may be a "rattle" noise coming from the engine compartment during stop-and-go acceleration when the engine reaches 2500 RPMs This may be caused by the flapper valve, mounted on the underside of the hood, vibrating and generating a rattle.
ACTION:
Replace the flapper valve with a revised design flapper valve which will reduce the possibility of rattling. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Verify the noise by driving the vehicle. Conduct a quick stop-and-go acceleration test.
NOTE:
IT IS RECOMMENDED TO CONDUCT THIS TEST IN AN AREA WHERE NO TRAFFIC IS PRESENT.
2. If the noise is heard, open the hood and secure the flapper valve by applying duct tape over the flapper valve. Test drive the vehicle again as outlined in Step 1.
3. If the noise is gone, replace the flapper valve under the hood. If the noise is still present, the noise is coming from another place. Remove the duct tape and continue with diagnosis.
