Drive Belt Symptom Chart

CONDITION
^ Drive belt noise or squeal

POSSIBLE CAUSE
^ Drive belt.
^ Pulley(s).

ACTION
^ Determine what area of the pulley(s) the noise is coming from, then check that area with a straightedge and look for the accessory pulley(s) to be out of position in the fore/aft direction or at an angle to the straightedge. Start with the power steering pump pulley which should be flush ±O.25mm (0.010 inch) from end of shaft.
