Water Pump: Service and Repair

1. Drain engine cooling system.
2. Remove radiator electric motor, fan blade and fan shroud as an assembly.
3. Rotate drive belt tensioner, then remove drive belt.
4. Remove water pump pulley bolts, then pulley.
5. Remove power steering pump pulley and water pump to power steering pump brace.
6. Remove heater water outlet tube bolts and heater water outlet tube from water pump.
7. Disconnect lower radiator hose from water pump.
8. Remove water pump bolts, stud bolts and nuts, then water pump. Discard old water pump housing gasket.

CAUTION: If using prying device to assist in water pump removal, be careful not to damage mating surfaces.

9. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Lightly oil all bolt and stud threads before installation, except those specifying special sealant.
b. Apply gasket and trim adhesive D7AZ-19B508-B or equivalent, to water pump housing gasket to hold in position.
c. Coat threads of No. 1 water pump bolt with pipe sealant with Teflon(r) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent, before installing.
d. Fill engine cooling system with specified coolant.

NOTE: This engine has aluminum cylinder heads and requires special corrosion inhibiting coolant formula to avoid cooling system damage.

e. Start engine and check for coolant leaks.
