System Air Flow

AIRFLOW CONTROL

Airflow control is accomplished by the recirc/fresh air and airflow lever of the climate control assembly. The lever is connected to the airflow control cable which is attached on the opposite end to an A/C and heater control cam on the heater. Cam position determines the position of the airflow doors within the heater. The position of these doors determines to which air outlets air will be delivered. Six positions are possible:

^ MAX A/C (vehicles with A/C) or RECIRC (vehicles without A/C)
^ PANEL
^ PNL/FLR
^ FLOOR
^ FLR/DEF
^ DEFROST

In the MAX A/C position, the vacuum control switch closes the A/C air inlet door by actuating the vacuum control motor on the A/C evaporator housing to select air recirculation in the passenger compartment. In any other position, fresh air will be drawn into the passenger compartment. The vacuum control motor receives vacuum from the A/C vacuum reservoir tank and bracket mounted behind the A/C evaporator housing.
