NB20 - Continuous Code 223 Check Continuity of DPI Circuit



Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 223 indicates an open in the Dual Plug Inhibit (DPI) circuit or an open or short to ground in coil 4.

Possible causes:

- Open in harness.

- Short in harness.

- Damaged Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

- Damaged Ignition Control Module (ICM).

- Coil 4 damage.

- Key "OFF".

- Disconnect ICM (Pins 1-6).

- Disconnect PCM. Inspect for damaged or pushed out pins. corrosion, loose wires, etc. Service as necessary.

- Install breakout box, leave PCM disconnected.

- Measure resistance between DPI pin at the ICM vehicle harness connector and test pin 32 or test pin 31 Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI) at the breakout box.

- Is resistance less than 5.0 ohms?

Yes -- Remove breakout box. Reconnect all components. Refer to Ignition Systems. If ignition system checks OK Replace PCM.

No -- Service open circuit. Remove breakout box. Reconnect all components. Rerun quick test. Quick Test Appendix (Detailed Testing Instructions)
