Electronic Operation
4EAT System Electronic Component Input/Output.:
Operating Modes
The automatic transaxle has two operating modes - POWER and NORMAL when in DRIVE range. The mode is determined by the speed at which the accelerator pedal is depressed. The TCM receives a throttle position sensor signal and chooses the correct mode of operation. If the transaxle is in the POWER mode, the transaxle will not go into lockup (D range). The POWER mode lengthens the shifting points in the transaxle. Under normal driving conditions, the module will determine the operating mode.
Overspeed Protection
The automatic transaxle is equipped with an overspeed protection device. It the selector lever is placed in the 2 or 1 range and the vehicle is driven at excessive speeds for that gear, the overspeed protection device will upshift the transaxle to protect it from damage.
Diagnostics
The automatic transaxle diagnostic procedures will determine, verify and locate the conditions that arise. When the procedure is conducted, the test step will direct the technician to the next necessary procedure.
