EGR 3 - Check EGR Valve

^ Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached.

^ Key OFF.

Vacuum Test EGR Valve:

^ Connect a Rotunda Vacuum Tester 021-00037 or equivalent to the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve.

^ Key On, Engine Running.

^ Idle the engine.

^ Verify the engine runs rough when applied vacuum reaches the specified value of 40-60 mm Hg (1.6-2.4 in Hg), or the engine stalls at a higher vacuum.

^ Does the engine run rough or stall?

YES -- EGR valve is functioning properly.

NO -- Remove EGR valve and inspect for blocked passages.

^ Are passages blocked?

YES -- Clean passages and repeat test EGR3.

NO -- Replace the EGR valve.
