ISSUE:
A driveline "boom" may occur between speeds of 20 to 40 mph (32 to 64 km/h). This is caused by the bushing-to-bushing length of the rear upper control arms.

ACTION:
Replace the rear upper control arms in pairs with arms that are longer in bushing-to-bushing length. Refer to the following service procedure for service details.





1. Identify the rear upper control arm by referring to the chart shown in Figure 1.

2. To determine the arm length on any vehicle, proceed as follows:

a. Look for the color code on the arms and match this with the color code information provided in Figure 1, or go to Step 2b.

b. Measure the "A" or "B" dimension of the arms as shown in Figure 1 and match this with the dimensional information provided in Figure 1.

NOTE:
NEW ARMS ARE TO BE REPLACED IN PAIRS ONLY.

NOTE:
SOME 3.8L COUPES BUILT THROUGH 11/30/93, ALREADY HAVE THE LONGER UPPER ARMS (ENG. PART # PMF22ZC-5500-AA). WHEN REPLACING THESE ARMS IN SERVICE, THEY MUST BE IDENTIFIED AND REPLACED WITH THE SAME LONGER UPPER ARMS. THESE PARTS MAY BE REPLACED AS NECESSARY, PROVIDED THE SAME COLOR CODE AND PART NUMBER ARE USED.

3. Install the longer rear upper control arms (F4ZZ-5500-A). Refer to the 1994 Mustang Service Manual, Section 04-02, for the removal and installation procedures.
