Disconnecting Spring Lock Coupling

SPRING LOCK COUPLING

To Disconnect Coupling:

CAUTION: Discharge the system into an approved recovery unit before disconnecting the coupling.

1. Fit the spring lock coupling tool to the spring lock coupling so that the spring lock coupling tool can enter the cage opening to release the A/C tube lock coupling spring. Refer to Special Service Tools/Equipment for spring lock coupling tool numbers.

2. Push the tool into the cage opening to release the female fitting from the A/C tube lock coupling spring.

3. Pull the spring lock coupling fittings apart.

4. Remove the tool from the disconnected spring lock coupling.

To Connect Coupling:

1. Check for a missing or damaged A/C tube lock coupling spring. A damaged A/C tube lock coupling spring can be removed with a small hooked wire. Install a new A/C tube lock coupling spring if the old one is damaged or missing.
2. Clean the fittings.

3. Install new 0-rings. Use only specified 0-rings.

4. Lubricate the mating surfaces of the fittings with clean refrigerant oil.
5. Assemble the fittings by pushing them together with a slight twisting motion.

6. To ensure spring lock coupling engagement, visually check to be sure the A/C tube lock coupling spring is over the flared end of the female fitting.
