Refrigerant System Protection

Single Function Refrigerant Containment Switch

The single function refrigerant containment switch controls operation of the A/C clutch. The switch contains electrical contacts that are normally closed.

When head pressure rises to approximately 3068 kPa (445 psi), the contacts open causing the A/C clutch to disengage.

When head pressure drops to approximately 1724 kPa (250 psi), the contacts again close and allow for operation of the A/C compressor.

Shutting down A/C compressor operation prior to the pressure relief valve set point 3103-4137 kPa (450-600 psi) ensures containment of the refrigerant in the A/C system.
