Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain transmission fluid, then disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
3. Disconnect electrical connectors near governor, then ground wire from transaxle.
4. Disconnect transaxle vacuum hose, then shift lever nut from manual shaft assembly.
5. Remove shift cable from transaxle, then support engine using engine support bar D87L-6000-A, or equivalent.
6. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
7. Remove left splash shield, then stabilizer bar mounting nuts and brackets.
8. Remove lower arm clamp bolts and nuts. Pull lower arms down, separating lower arms from knuckles.
9. Remove cotter pin and nut, then disconnect tie rod end from knuckle.
10. Remove halfshafts, then install differential plugs T87C-7025-C, or equivalent, between differential side gears.
11. Disconnect oil cooler hoses, then remove crossmember.
12. Remove gusset plate-to-transaxle bolts, then remove flywheel cover.
13. Remove torque converter bolts, then starter.
14. Remove engine-to-transaxle bolts, then transaxle from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
