^ STEERING COLUMN COVER - STICKING HAZARD FLASHER - DOES NOT TURN OFF
^ HAZARD FLASHER - STICKING - DOES NOT TURN OFF
FORD:
1994 ASPIRE
ISSUE:
The hazard flasher may not shut off.
ACTION:
This condition may be caused by interference at the steering column cover to hazard switch, which will limit switch travel and prevent "turn off" of the hazard switch. Removing a reinforcing rib from the upper steering column cover opening will allow "turn off" of hazard switch. Use the following procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Verify that the hazard switch will not turn off.
2. Remove three (3) attaching screws from the lower steering column and carefully separate the upper and lower covers.
3. Locate the hazard switch opening in the upper column cover.
4. Using a die grinder or equivalent, remove the reinforcing rib that surrounds the hazard switch opening on the underside of the upper steering column cover (Figures 1 and 2).
NOTE:
DO NOT GRIND THE RIB SURFACE BELOW FLUSH (FIGURE 1).
5. Reassemble the steering column cover by reversing the order of removal.
6. Verify proper operation of the hazard flasher switch.
