EGR Valve Position Sensor: Description and Operation
EGR Valve And Position Sensor:
PURPOSE
EGR Valve Position (EVP) sensor provides information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) reflecting EGR valve position. The sensor indicates the amount of exhaust gases flowing into the engine by monitoring valve movement and notifies the PCM of electrical failure in the EVP sensor.
OPERATION
Sensor is a variable resistor moved through its range by EGR valve operation. PCM sends a reference voltage and calculates EGR valve position based on resistance through sensor. Signal is approximately 0.8V when EGR valve is closed, and approximately 5.0V when fully opened.
