Removal and Installation
REMOVALWARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute for the backup power supply to be depleted.
2. Remove the driver side air bag module.
3. Remove the steering wheel.
4. Remove the steering column.
5. Remove the instrument cluster.
6. Remove the instrument panel finish panel and screws. Push the interior fuse junction panel forward but do not remove.
7. Remove the parking brake console panel.
8. Remove the shift console panel.
9. Remove the air bag diagnostic monitor.
10. Remove the screws retaining the climate control assembly.
11. Disconnect the control cables and remove the climate control assembly.
12. Open the glove compartment.
13. Remove the glove compartment screws.
14. Remove the glove compartment.
15. Remove the passenger side air bag module.
16. Remove the instrument panel access hole cover and tapping screw A located in the center of the instrument panel.
17. Remove the instrument panel lower bolts B, C, D and E.
18. Remove the side instrument panel access hole covers and instrument panel side bolts F, G, H and I.
19. Loosen the hood release locknut and remove the cable.
20. Pull the instrument panel back, disconnect any electrical connectors and climate control assembly cables and remove the instrument panel.
INSTALLATION
1. Connect any electrical connectors disconnected during removal.
2. Position the hood release cable and install the hood release locknut.
3. Position the instrument panel on the bulkhead and loosely install tapping screw A.
4. Install and tighten the instrument panel side bolts F and G to 19-25 Nm (14-18 lb-ft).
5. Install and tighten the instrument panel side bolts H and I to 19-25 Nm (14-18 lb-ft).
6. Tighten the tapping screw A to 8-11 Nm (71-97 lb-in).
7. Install the instrument panel access hole cover.
8. Install and tighten the instrument panel lower bolts B and C to 19-25 Nm (14-18 lb-ft).
9. Install and tighten the instrument panel side bolts D and E to 19-25 Nm (14-18 lb-ft).
10. Install the passenger side air bag module.
11. Install the glove compartment and the glove compartment screws.
12. Connect the control cables and install the climate control assembly and the climate control assembly screws.
13. Install the air bag diagnostic monitor.
14. Install the shift console panel.
15. Install the parking brake console panel.
16. Install the instrument cluster.
17. Install the steering column.
18. Install the steering wheel.
19. Install the driver side air bag module.
20. Connect the battery ground cable.
