Paint - Chipping at License Plate

PAINT - CHIPPING AT LICENSE PLATE GARNISH - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 4/1/95

FORD:
1994-95 ASPIRE

ISSUE:
The paint may chip at the license plate garnish. This may be caused by contact of the garnish to the body while driving and/or when closing the liftgate.

ACTION:
Attach rubber spacers on the inside lower edge of the license plate garnish. This will maintain clearance between the license plate garnish and the liftgate. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Cut two (2) lengths of 7/32" vacuum hose, or equivalent, 3 mm long. Refer to Figure 1.

NOTE:
MAKE SURE WHEN CUTTING THE HOSE THAT BOTH THE ENDS ARE PARALLEL.

2. Remove the four (4) bolts that hold the license plate garnish to the liftgate.





3. Wipe the mounting area clean, Figure 2.

4. Install the two (2) lengths of hose onto the license plate garnish using Ford Adhesive (E8AZ-19554-A) or equivalent. Refer to Figure 2.





5. Paint the chipped area using Ford Touch-up Paint. Refer to the Paint Chart for the correct part numbers.

6. Let the paint dry.

7. Reinstall the license plate garnish.
