1993 Thunderbird Supercoupe - Throttle Body Assembly

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE
DO NOT ORDER PARTS UNTIL YOU HAVE VERIFIED VIA OASIS THAT THE VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN THIS PROGRAM.

CALL 1-800-325-5621 (RENKIM CORPORATION) TO OBTAIN A NEW THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. PROVIDE THE CUSTOMER A FREE RENTAL CAR (EXCLUDING FUEL) UNTIL THE REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED (SEE ATTACHMENT I FOR DETAILS).

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.

2. Remove throttle intake air tube.

3. Disconnect throttle cable.

4. Disconnect TV control cable.

5. Disconnect electrical connectors for throttle position sensor and idle air control (IAC) valve.

6. Remove four throttle body retaining nuts, remove throttle body.

INSTALLATION

1. Inspect and clean gasket surfaces.

2. Install new gasket on intake plenum.

3. Install throttle body.

4. Install four retaining nuts. Tighten to 20-30 N-m (15-22 lb.ft.).

5. Connect electrical connections for throttle position sensor and idle air control (IAC) valve.

6. Connect throttle cable and check for retention and throttle movement for any binding.

7. Connect TV control cable. Refer to 1993 Thunderbird/Cougar Shop Manual pages 07-01-118 through 121 for adjustments.

8. Install intake air tube.

9. Connect negative battery cable.

10. Start engine, check for leaks and proper operation.
