EGR Valve: Service and Repair

WARNING: EGR components transport hot exhaust gases. Contact with hot EGR components may cause severe burns. Wear protective gloves or allow the vehicle sufficient time to cool.

Fuel Charging System:

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect EGR valve vacuum line and EGR pressure sensor wire.
2. Remove EGR pressure sensor retaining nut.
3. Loosen EGR supply tube at exhaust manifold and disconnect supply tube from EGR valve.
4. Remove EGR retaining bolts and remove EGR valve and pressure sensor as an assembly.

INSTALLATION

1. Clean all mating surfaces being careful not to get foreign material in the intake manifold.
2. Connect EGR valve to EGR tube, making sure tube is seated in EGR valve correctly, and hand tighten.
3. Install the EGR valve and pressure sensor as an assembly, with a new gasket.
- Torque the mounting bolts to 19 lb.ft. (25 Nm).
4. Tighten EGR exhaust supply tube at EGR valve and at exhaust manifold.
- Torque to 30 lb. ft. (41 Nm).
5. Install EGR pressure sensor valve nut to intake manifold.
- Torque nut to 71-106 lb. in. (8-12 Nm).
6. Connect EGR pressure sensor wire, and vacuum line.
7. START the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
