ISSUE:
An extended 3-2 or 4-2 downshift with harsh bump, above 55 MPH at wide open throttle, may be thought of as a greater than expected engine RPM increase during the downshift with a harsh bump on completion. This condition is caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with calibration 3-10C-R00A on vehicles built before 5/17/93.

ACTION:
On Taurus SHO vehicles built before 5/17/93, with PCM calibration 3-10C-R00A, replace the Powertrain Control Module with service PCM (F3DZ-12A650-JC) and change the calibration to 3-10C-R10.





Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
