Fuel Injector: Service and Repair
Fuel Injectors And Related Components:
REMOVAL
WARNING: Fuel system pressure remains high even when the engine is not running.
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure, refer to Service and Repair / Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure. Fuel Pressure Release
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Remove the engine air cleaner and air cleaner to intake manifold tubes.
4. Disconnect the fuel charging wiring electrical connectors.
5. Remove the fuel tube bolt from the fuel tube. Discard the copper crush washers.
6. Remove the vacuum line and the fuel return hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
7. Remove the fuel pressure regulator bolts and the fuel pressure regulator.
8. Remove the two bolts from each fuel injection supply manifold and remove the fuel injection supply manifolds.
9. Remove the six fuel injector O-rings.
10. Remove the seven fuel charging wiring screws from each fuel injection supply manifold and remove the fuel charging wiring from the fuel injection supply manifolds.
Fuel Injector:
11. Remove one spacer from the top of each fuel injector and discard the spacer.
12. Remove the fuel injectors from the fuel injection supply manifold by rotating back and forth.
INSTALLATION
To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install new O-rings, spacers, fuel injector 0-ring and crush washers. Tighten the fuel injection supply manifold bolts to 19-25 Nm (14-18 lb ft). Tighten the fuel pressure regulator bolts to 8-11 Nm (71-97 lb in). Tighten the fuel tube bolt to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb in).
