Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Description and Operation

Measuring Core-Volume Air Flow Sensor:

PURPOSE
The Measuring Core - Volume Air Flow (MC-VAF) meter detects the amount of intake air and converts the measurement into a voltage by means of a potentiometer. The voltage signal determines fuel injection quantities.

OPERATION
When air is passed through the sensor, the measuring core moves parallel with and in relation to air flow through the sensor. Core movement changes resistance through a potentiometer, providing a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) that is calculated as air flow volume.
