Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor senses the incoming intake air temperature. The signal is used by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when making adjustments to air/fuel mixture, high fan relay, and purge flow control.

OPERATION
The IAT sensor changes resistance when it comes in contact with the intake fresh air flow.

CONSTRUCTION
The IAT sensor is a thermistor device whose resistance changes with temperature variations and fluctuations.
