Component Tests
NOTE: Check idle speed with coolant fan not operating.1. Warm engine to operating temperature.
2. Turn all electrical loads OFF.
Tachometer Hook-Up:
3. Connect tachometer to data link connector terminal IG-.
4. With the cooling fan OFF, verify that the idle speed is 650 ±50 rpm.
5. Verify idle speed is within specification under conditions described on image chart:
Idle Speed Table:
BPA Valve
NOTE: Inspection must be done with engine cold - coolant temperature below 68°F (20°C).
1. Connect Super Star Tester II or equivalent. Set system select to position 1 and test switch to SELF TEST.
2. Start engine and verify idle speed decreases gradually as engine warms up.
Idle Air Control Valve
Idle Air Control Valve Resistance:
1. Remove throttle body.
2. Measure resistance across valve terminals.
RESISTANCE: 10.7 - 12.3 Ohms @ 68°F (20°C)
3. If not as specified, replace IAC valve.
