Component Tests

NOTE: Check idle speed with coolant fan not operating.

1. Warm engine to operating temperature.

2. Turn all electrical loads OFF.

Tachometer Hook-Up:






3. Connect tachometer to data link connector terminal IG-.

4. With the cooling fan OFF, verify that the idle speed is 650 ±50 rpm.

5. Verify idle speed is within specification under conditions described on image chart:

BPA Valve

NOTE: Inspection must be done with engine cold - coolant temperature below 68°F (20°C).

1. Connect Super Star Tester II or equivalent. Set system select to position 1 and test switch to SELF TEST.

2. Start engine and verify idle speed decreases gradually as engine warms up.

Idle Air Control Valve

Idle Air Control Valve Resistance:






1. Remove throttle body.

2. Measure resistance across valve terminals.

RESISTANCE: 10.7 - 12.3 Ohms @ 68°F (20°C)

3. If not as specified, replace IAC valve.
