Power Locks: Description and Operation

Voltage is present at the Door Panel Switches, the Door Key Cylinder Switches and Power Door Lock Relay contacts at all times through the DOOR LOCK Fuse.

When the Front Door Panel Lock Switch or a Door Key Cylinder Switch is moved to the UNLOCK position, a reduced voltage is applied to the solid-state component inside the Power Door Lock Relay through circuit 335 GN. The solid-state component momentarily energizes the unlock coil of the relay and the relays contacts close. Current now flows to operate the Door Lock Motors from the Door Lock Fuse through circuit 82 (W/GN), the Power Door Lock Relay's unlock contacts, and circuit 331 (R). The Door Lock Motors are grounded at G3OO through circuit 332 (GN),the Power Door Lock Relay's lock contacts and circuit 57 (BK).

When a Door Panel Lock Switch or a Door Key Cylinder Switch is moved to the lock position, the Power Door Lock Relay's lock relay energizes to allow current to flow to the door lock motors through circuit 332 (GN). The motors move to the "LOCK" position since they are grounded at G3OO through the power Door Lock Relay's unlock relay contacts and circuit 57 (BK).
