Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor:

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor constantly supplies the PCM with a signal reflecting engine coolant temperature. PCM reads varying sensor resistance and determines engine operating temperature. This information optimizes the air/fuel mixture, EGR flow, idle speed, fuel pressure, purge flow and ignition timing. This is a negative temperature coefficient sensor; as temperature increases, resistance decreases.
