Valve Clearance: Adjustments

The valve lash on this engine cannot be adjusted due to the use of hydraulic valve lash adjusters. However, the valve train can be checked for wear as follows:
1. Crank engine to position camshaft with flat section of lobe facing rocker arm of valve being checked.
2. Remove rocker arm retaining spring. Late models do not incorporate the retaining spring.
3. Collapse lash adjuster with valve spring compressor tool T74P-6565B and insert correct size feeler gauge between rocker arm and camshaft lobe. Clearance should be .040-.050 inch. If not, remove rocker arm and check for wear and replace as necessary. If rocker arm is found satisfactory, check valve spring assembled height and adjust as needed. Valve spring assembled height should be 1.53 to 1.59 inch. If not, remove lash adjuster, and clean or replace parts as necessary.
